Welcome to Christ
United Methodist Church!

Christ UMC is located in the Coulwood area (pronounced “cool wood”) in northwest Charlotte, NC. Founded in 1959 by local residents, our church tries our best to be the hands, feet, and heart of Jesus Christ in our community.  We’re actively involved in feeding and housing the hungry and homeless, caring for God’s “little ones” through dynamic and  successful children’s ministries and preschool/afterschool programs, and building closer relationships with Jesus Christ through worship, Bible study, and missions.

What can you expect when you visit
Christ UMC for the first time?

You can expect to be greeted with genuine smiles. You can expect to feel welcome. You can expect to make many new friends. You can expect to sing. You can expect to eat. Methodists love to sing and eat!

Can you take Holy Communion?

Anyone who wishes to participate can join in.  In the Methodist tradition, we believe the Lord’s Supper to be a means of God’s grace.  Therefore, we would not want to withhold such grace from anyone!  If you come from a different Christian upbringing or background, you’re invited to the Lord’s table with us. Communion is usually scheduled for the first Sunday of each month.

Do you have to know the words to hymns/songs?

No, we have both hymn books and large flat screen monitors with the words to the hymns and Praise Band songs. Our early service (8:45 am) offers traditional hymns while our later service (11:00 am) offers a mix of hymns and popular Christian music. Please jump right in and make a joyful noise!

What about babies and small children?
Can you provide for them during service?

Yes, we have both a nursery for infants and Children’s Church for little ones.  Children of all ages are welcome to worship with us.  Shortly after the service starts, the children are invited to come to the front of the sanctuary for a short bible lesson.  After that is over, they have a choice to go to Children’s Church (in our education building) or they can go back and sit with their family.

Do you need to know anyone before attending?

No, you can come any time. Several members of our congregation didn’t know a soul before they decided to take a chance and drop in on a service. They were immediately welcomed and actually joined the congregation soon afterward.

Do you have mid-week services?

Yes we do.  Each Wednesday evening, during the months of September-May is “Wonderful Wednesday” at Christ UMC!  We gather for a drop-in supper from 5:30-6:15, and then have various class offerings from 6:30-7:30.  We always offer various Bible studies, along with topical studies, relationship and marital enrichment classes, and a Pilates exercise class – as well as occasional worship opportunities as well.
